The Chairmen of these three Committees introduced comprehensive health care reform legislation on July 14. This bill, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act HR 3200,  was the central piece of House health care  legislation, but has now been replaced.   There is other proposed legislation in the House, but this bill is the focal point of discussion and legislative action. Ezra Klein links to and comments on the summary sheets on main aspects of the bill.

As an alternative, Representative John Conyers Jr (Democrat, Michigan) has submitted the  Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act (H.R. 676),  which, as of August 9, 2009, had 86 recorded cosponsors. This calls for the creation of a single-payer health care system in the US.
